What Drives Donor Behavior

Hello everyone,

I hope you are off to a good February.  Wow, how time moves!  I don’t really whine about a lot, but as my family knows I whine about cold weather.  A little ironic considering my Canadian roots, but there is one cold sheep in every family, right?   Before we get to the articles for this month, I wanted to share some things I found interesting recently.  I hope you will find them interesting, too.  But again, I am a geek about this stuff, so you might not. 😊

1. Estimates on giving for 2018 and 2019 are predicting about a 3 - 4% increase in giving each year.

2. New Donor Acquisition:  Email giving is returning and expected to increase this year.  It now accounts for 26% of online giving according to Dunham research, while overall social media use is becoming more cautious.

3. Reach Success: When donors are told that your organization's fundraising program is at 85% of the goal, giving sharply increases.  But when told of anything less than 85%, there is no notable impact on giving.

4. Monthly giving showed great gains in 2018 and is expected to grow even more in 2019.

5. More research is showing that an increasing number of nonprofits are investing more intentional time in meaningful donor “thank you” responses to drive repeat giving.  So why is this new or news, hmm… well, that is all I can really say.  Be glad you are ahead of the curve. 😊

So, there you have it!  Five things I found interesting.  I hope you will find something useful in this information and in the articles we shared this month. Be sure to take time in February to think about your March to May priorities, especially in constituent care.  This is a good time to do some cultivation care and touch work.  Below I included the 2019 cause awareness and giving day calendar, as well as a few other articles.

Thank you for allowing JDLA to be a part of your journey.

Have a blessed week,

Jamie
