Heart vs. Head
Hello Everyone,
I hope you are well and recalibrating to the excitement of the coming year. I was able to spend great quality and quantity time with friends and family over the holidays. My time off really validated one of the articles I am sending you this month. It's about "heart vs. head" messages that were tested in an appeal letter campaign in Alaska. It reinforces something we already know about individual giving, but does it a new way. I think you will like it.
Research tells us that people first give out of emotion, warmth and the sense of "doing good". Secondary motivations are things like outcomes and impact, etc. They are both important, but the heart dominates for the individual donor. This season is a great times to remember that and be sure we take time to steward relationships well. Take time to reach out to donors in January and February and thank them for their partnership. Let them know that they matter, and show them the warmth that comes from being part of your family of shared believers in your cause.
Thank you all for being part of our family as people who want to make the world a better place. JDLA is grateful for your perseverance.
Happy New Year!
Jamie
